This book is called the “Watsons go to Birmingham”. The author of this book is Christopher Paul Curtis. Some of the other books he has written is “ Bucking the Sarge” and “ Elijah of Buxton”. This is a fictional story. I think one theme of this book is friendship. Example of friendship is when Kenny was laughing at a mean joke someone said about Rufus. After that Rufus was not Kenny's friend anymore. Later Kenny apologizes to Rufus and they become friends again. This book took place in 1963. The family lives in Flint Michigan.
The protagonist, a 10-year-old boy is the middle child of the Watson family. Who occasionally gets picked on by his older brother and people in his school because his personality. Byron is Kenny's older brother, and the oldest child of the family. Byron does everything to be “cool”. He disobeys his parents a lot. His consequences for disobeying his parents is being sent to live with his strict grandma ,sand, for the whole summer, and getting his hair shaved off. Joey is their sister, She is the youngest in the family. She is five years old and cares very much about her brothers. Wilona Is The mother of the Watson family. Daniel is father. Grandma Sands is Wilona’s mother, and the kid’s grandma. She lives in Birmingham Alabama, She is very strict. Wilona sent Byron there to correct his bad behavior.
Byron tries to act “cool”, but that lead to very bad consequences; what happened to his hair? Kenny is very curious about colliers landing, it's where the little boy drowned in a whirlpool. Since it's forbidden he had to check it out. Let's just say he was very close to death “ ‘ Momma! Momma! Help me…’ ” Joey attends Sunday school. Eventually everyone hears almost like a huge thunder clap, shaking the whole house. He came from Joey Sunday school, The church.
I really like this book. It has so many interesting events. This book is written for people about the age of 11 and up. Not everyone is going to like this book, Maybe because you have different taste in book types. I really recommend this book to everyone. It's very serious and funny. If you like fiction books then this is just the one for you.
