Between Shades of Gray

The book I read was Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys. I haven't read her other books , but I'm sure that they will be good books like this one. In the book Between Shades of Gray, Lina and her family was taken away from their peaceful life by the NKVD ( Russian soldiers ) to be boxed in a boxcar with many others. This book is a historical fiction genre and is about the holocaust time period.

Lina and her family was having a peaceful life, but then came the NKVD, which took them to a truck full of other people taken away. Lina's father is nowhere to be seen, they were taken to boxcars. Lina then met many people throughout the story and falls in love with Andrius. In order for them to survive they had taken care of everyone before themselves. They were then located in concentration camps, which they had hopes that the German will come and save them. Through the story there will be a person who will help them through the problems they had faced but who? Lina and her family was forced to do thing for the NKVDs to get their ration like drawing a map.

I love this book because it had many plots that begins after one another and the character and her family is pure, thoughtful and amazing that I recommend to those historical lovers out there. This book really made me feel like I was there to see and feel all the things they been through and how they persevere throughout the story. I will give this rating a 10/10 because there was two lines that had struck me when I read this was “ The child had been alive only minutes but was already considered a criminal by the Soviets.” (pg 21) and “ Have you ever wondered what a human life is worth? That morning, my brother’s worth a pocket watch.”(pg 27). So if you like historical fiction books this one is recommended to you, and if you aren't interested then this book won't be the best book you'll read.
