The Austere Academy

The book I have been reading this trimester is called TheAustere Academy by Lemony Snicket. It’s the fifth book in the Series ofUnfortunate Events book series which consists of 12 books. This is the only book series that I know of by this author and I have thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

The series is about the 3 Baudelaires who were orphaned by a fire that burned down their mansion killing their parents. They go through a series of unfortunate events, hence the title of the series, and behind it all is the evil Count Olaf, their original caretaker who wants to get rid of them so he can have their fortune left behind by their parents. Count Olaf is an actor who dresses up as several different characters throughout the series and follows the Baudelaires wherever they go. In the book I’m currently reading, the Baudelaires have been brought to their new home, a boarding school called Prufrock Preparatory School. Once again Count Olaf is after them dressed as the school gym teacher, Coach Genghis. If that’s not bad, they have to deal with a rude vice principle, a school bully, live in a shack, and many more unfortunate and terrible things. Along the way they meet the Quagmire triplets, Duncan and Isadora. You might be thinking, hey… that’s just 2 people. How are they triplets? It’s hard to explain, but read the story and you’ll find out!

Overall, I really liked this book for the way it gets me stuck in it. I like the way the writer tells the story ss if he’s actually there witnessing what’s happening. I personally don’t enjoy reading, but this book really has gotten me to enjoy it more. If I like it I would think most people would enjoy it or at least like one of the books in the series. So after you’re done reading this, I definitely recommend you check out this book and give it a chance because it really is a good one. I also encourage that books 1-4 are read before you read this one so that you can understand the background and see what happens leading up to the fifth book.
