A Child Called It

The book I'll be reviewing today is A Child Called it by Dave Pelzer. Dave  pelzer has a series of books such as Help Yourself, Moving Yourself and also an sequel to this book named The Lost Boy. This book is very similar to his other books because they all cite back to problems he has had in life throughout growing up and, inspire others. This book is one of a kind and is very saddening from front to back. The book takes you throughout David's childhood growing up and, struggles he has faced he also explain his bravery and how he overcame and dealt with issues in his life. The genre of this book can be classified as a autobiography,biography and children's literature.

A Child Called "It" takes you through our author david’s heartbreaking true story of the abuse that he suffered from his alcoholic mother. Dave was born December 29, 1960 in Daly City, California. Dave counts his struggles over and over to cope with the abuse, which he survived by relying on faith hope determination, and the kindness of others. There are several types of abuse methods  that Dave received when he was a child. Those are explained in this book in great detail. You can find his story when his mother forced him to drink ammonia or even starved him.  She also forced him to eat his own vomit. Another physical abuse was when his mother tried to burn his arm on gas stove and stabbed his stomach. I was just so shocked on how someone could treat their own child this way. Here is evidence from the text that shows how abusive she was for example “ mother came closer and closer then placed a hard slap on my face, punch after punch she kept punching my face in, then she yanked and pushed me then we heard a POP we both looked at each other.” This part of the story surprised me most in left me in shock.

I truly love this book because it inspires me and also gives me hope in knowing even though I may have it rough people are going through tougher things, and to be appreciative with everything I have in life. Lastly I like this book because it also teaches me to greet and meet everyone with kindness for I don't know what problems they can be facing in life. In my opinion this book could be provided to a wide range of people only because somebody in any situation could read this book and still take something away from the reading. In conclusion I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a nice book to read. This book will give you chills but will also want you reading more and more I cannot express how much of a great book this is.

Phoenix Files: The Arrival

The book I read was called phoenix files by Chris morphew and the first book of a six book series and he has other books like man in the shadow and other books like that. I really liked his series because the book has a mysterious vibe to it and I just really like the book.

There is this kid who’s name is Luke and his mom works for this company and they move to a town where everybody that works with the company had to move but there was like a big bubble around the town so they couldn’t leave. Luke meets some kid at school and after school they hangout so they can know each other. There is a hobo in the town and nobody really know where he is from. Luke and his friend have to find out what is really going on.

I really like the book because it has a mysterious and kind of scary vibe to it I really like those kinds of books. I just really liked the book general because of the plot and how the story goes. I found it really interesting and I think you would too.I think the author tries to hook teenagers and adults. I think if teenagers read this book they would really like it. So I think you should go find this book and read it .

Call Me By My Name

The title of my book is called call me by my name. It is a novel by John Ed Bradley he's also created other books as well one of them are called it never rains in tiger stadium and another called the billionaire. It never rains in tiger stadium is sort of like call me by my name because it's about football but it's bigger then football. My overview of the book is if you look history and if you like football then this is a must read it's a great historical fiction book it's a fantastic and astounding book.

The story takes place in Louisiana down south where desegregation is starting to happen and integration is starting to happen in schools as well. A character in this book that I like the most is Tater Henry. He is the definition of perseverance he's a young African American male who plays quarterback but his coach won't play him for obvious reasons they already have a white quarterback. He's my favorite character and he's one of the reasons why I love this book so much because people want to see tater fail “people would want to see him fail for the obvious reason. We can't let that happen” Bradley (Pg 86).  Just goes to show that it's a well thought out book and about perseverance.

I didn't just like this book I loved this book. I loved this book because it shows you that you can get through anything. No matter what situation you're in just never give up cause you never know how close you are to achieving something. The target audience in my opinion is for people who are down on themselves just because they got a no perseverance is key no matter what you can get through any and everything. You would love this book just like how I love it if you like a good story then this is the book for you. Get this book as soon as possible! Because it is a must read you'll enjoy the story there are good moments and then there are sad moments but it's a beautiful story

The Living

The living by Matt de la Pena. He has also written ball don’t lie, I will save you and Mexican whiteboy. His books are similar because they involve poverty and Latin heritage. The living is a book about a boy who is Mexican and is working on a cruise ship for money but then something unexpected happens.

In the living shy (the main character) is working on a cruise ship and his family is back home in San Diego. He befriends the others working on the ship with him such as Carmen, Rodney and Kevin. Shy and Carmen have a connection because they’ve both had family killed by Romero disease. But Carmen has a fiancé back at home and she has to decide between him or shy while the biggest earthquake ever recorded hits California.

I personally really like reading the living because it’s not just about some apocalyptic world we get to go deeper with the characters and hear about their problems and their families problems. This book is good for all ages and if you have any spare time I strongly suggest reading it. Go read!

Love Letters to the Dead

The book I am reading right now is called Love Letters To The Dead. Other books she has written is Love Letters To The Dead chapters 1-5 it was a preview before the whole book came out and she is going to write a new book called In Search Of Us in 2018. This book is about a girl named Laurel and she had a sister named May who died at a young age, Laurel had an English assignment to write a letter to a dead person.

What the story is about is Laurel having to do an English assignment to write to the dead. Her teacher knows that something happened to her sister May, making her write an assignment to the dead. She wrote many letters to the dead relating to them with her life but never turned in an assignment for English. While her friends Hannah and Natalie were there with her ever since they met her and go through everything together. For example Laurel was seeing this, “ We walked half shivering down the liquor aisle, and Natalie pulled a bottle of cinnamon After Shock off the shelf and into her halfway on hoodie. Then we took it to the bathroom and peeled off the label so it wouldn’t beep. I ignored my quick beating heart and tried to act normal, like I’d done this sort of thing before” (Dellaira 34).

I liked the book because it has a great story line for example I like how everything she does either relates about her sister or about the people from the dead. The book was written for younger siblings when their older sibling is gone and not with them anymore they miss their presence. I don’t think all people would like this book because it depends on what types of books they’re interested in. This book is really good if you’re into realistic fiction. You can even relate to the story because there are a lot of different things happening in the story. I hope you choose to read this book because it’s one of my favorite books that I’ve read.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

My book is called diary of the wimpy kid by Jeff Kinney. It is a series of fiction comics. He has written more than one books relating to book one.

This book is mostly talking about a boy named Greg and he has a best friend named Rowley. Also his first year in middle school and he is not having a good time at school. During his first class period he was forced to sit with other people he didn’t want to sit with and one of the dudes name is Fregly. He doesn’t think his best friend Rowley would fit in middle school because ever since they were friends he thinks he is very immature. Rowley and Greg decided to join wrestling in school but then Greg decided to stop wrestling because he lost a match against fregly one of the guys that he didn’t want to be next to.

I recommend this book because I feel like I am in his shoes like we have a connection. Every time I start school I just don’t want to sit by anybody I don’t know. So if you are interested in finding what happens next in the book you should check out the book in the media center and see if the book is interesting to you.
